Professor Alcañiz’s timely book, The Distributive Politics of Environmental Protection in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-authored with Ricardo Gutierrez, was featured in the Sadat Chair Program.

Alcañiz’s groundbreaking work in The Distributive Politics of Environmental Protection in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-authored with Ricardo Gutierrez, discusses how political coalitions in Latin America and the Caribbean shape climate and environmental policy. Their research examines environmental justice for underserved populations like indigenous communities in this region who advocate for state and environmental protections. Alcañiz and Gutierrez’s book examines how climate and environmental problems interrelate with economic and political factors. Their work contributes substantively to the field of environmental justice and is timely given the global climate emergency.
