Exciting News: Dr. Ryan Long Joins as New Director of LACS

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ryan Long has been appointed as the new Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center (LACS) at the University of Maryland. Dr. Long, a distinguished scholar with deep expertise in Mexican literature and culture, brings a wealth of knowledge and a dynamic vision to our center.

Dr. Long’s research interests span across literature, visual culture, politics, and architectural theory, with notable publications such as Queer Exposures: Sexuality and Photography in the Fiction and Poetry of Roberto Bolaño and Fictions of Totality: The Mexican Novel, 1968, and the National-Popular State. His interdisciplinary approach and commitment to exploring the intersections of cultural production and politics promise to invigorate our academic community.

Additionally, we are pleased to introduce our new graduate assistant for the 2024-2025 academic year, Noelia Mantilla Zambrano. Ms. Mantilla Zambrano’s energy and fresh perspectives will undoubtedly enrich our activities and projects.
