The Embassy of Grenada in Washington, D.C., and the Department of English at the University of Maryland, supported by Carivision Community Theatre, present "Ocean Stirrings: Dramatized Readings from a Work of Fiction by Merle Collins," a novel inspired by the life story of the Caribbean mother of Malcolm X and his seven siblings.
The event offers a chance to to hear both adults and young people from the community use their voices to trace a story beginning in 19th century Grenada and moving to the 20th century USA.
Selected readings by author Merle Collins. Also introducing L. Dev Hatcher, a new children's writer from the US-Grenada diaspora community, and the work of John Henry, a Caribbean/Grenadian artist selected by the Embassy of Grenada. A thought-provoking, commemorative Caribbean/US journey supported by artist Peter Humphrey on the steelpan and snacks provided by the Embassy of Grenada.
